After Jesus’ birth the power of what God was up to was still reverberating in the world. The Magi from the east follow the star to Bethlehem. Having stopped in Jerusalem on the way, King Herod is now aware that the word is out! A new king is born. We know the story, but let’s not miss how spectacular it is that God announces the good news to foreigners from far away, and that the powers of the world are nervous about what this news might mean. As we gather at the Table this morning to start 2024 in worship together, may we open our hearts to the power of Jesus to be our King of Kings.
