One of the metaphors Jesus uses to tell us about living faithfully is that we are to be salt in the world. We most often think about how salt makes things taste a little better. In his time salt was more of a preservative than a seasoning. I think our faithfulness as we surprise the world can include both. Let Matthew 5:13-16 lead us more deeply before the Lord today.
