Springville First United Methodist Church Library is open whenever the building at 474 East Main St., Springville, NY 14141 is open.
Who can use the library? We share our resources with the community as well as with all ministries of the church. If you want to borrow something, please sign it out on the card provided, and return it as soon as you are finished using it. The library is a pleasant room to browse, read or wait for family and friends.
What's in the library? The library has almost 3000 items! You will find devotional reading material, books on church history, other religions, family and social concerns, psychology, biography, fiction and reference material. We have special collections for Young Adult Teens, Youth, Tiny Tots and Children. Over the years the library has grown to include tapes, videos, magazines, and CD's.
Who buys the materials for the library? The library is supported by private donations of money, and new and used materials.
The library committee selects materials according to the following guidelines:
- Materials that strengthen and enrich the Christian Education Program for teachers, students, and the total congregation at all age levels.
- Media which enriches and supports church programs.
- Media which stimulates spiritual growth and offers ethical standards and factual knowledge.
- Materials which help the church community make intelligent and moral judgments in its daily life.
To ensure an appropriate collection, the library committee uses the following criteria:
- Principles above personal opinion.
- Reason above prejudice.
- High quality in content as well as quality of the binding.
- Up to date material.
We welcome suggestions and recommendations at all times from all sectors of the congregation but the committee reserves the right to act upon suggestion. Normally, the library committee will make the final decision on selection or rejection of materials.
