FALL BAZAAR
Hand and Heart Bazaar November 13th.

A group of us are organizing a bazaar to raise money for the mortgage, and have fun with our crafts, as well as get to know each other better. The Hand and Heart Bazaar, "Handmade from the heart", will be Saturday, November 13, 2010, 9:35 am to 4:05 pm in the Family Life Center. Baked goods, crafts including wood crafts, an I.O.U. booth, and a Gift Basket SALE (not auction), and some sort of refreshments are planned. There will not be a rummage or book sale. Demonstrations of chair caning and candlewicking are planned. We need people to be alert to prices and ideas as they travel around this summer, and share these with us.

We will be publicizing this widely to draw attendees from the people coming to Springville on November 13 for store open houses.

What's an I.O.U. booth? Start thinking of something you could donate as a gift certificate to be purchased and redeemed later. It might be baking a cake, repotting plants, shortening a skirt or pants, waxing a car, walking a dog, delivering a singing telegram on someone's birthday...creative ideas are welcome! When your donated I.O.U. certificate is purchased on November 13, we will put you and the buyer in touch.

The Gift and Regift basket sale does not have to be all new stuff. You might put vintage mixing bowls with a cake mix and wooden spoons, or give a house plant you've raised, a group of hand made cards with a pen and a couple of stamps, or something you collected on a trip outside the country but don't use or need. Talk to Carolyn Johnson for lots of ideas.

All meetings will take place in room 2B next to the church library and anyone interested is invited to bring ideas. Please come! Cathie Phelps, Joy Maybray, and Carolyn Johnson.

FOOD PANTRY UPDATE
We have been designated by the Food Pantry as a "Bread Giving Church." The need for bread in the Springville area is great as bread production has decreased while bread demand has risen. So to help our local Food Pantry and to keep white and wheat bread donations coming in on a consistent basis, we have set up the following schedule:
9a.m. worship service: bring bread donations the first and third Sunday of each month;
11a.m. worship service; bring bread donations the second and fourth Sunday of each month.
On the fifth Sunday, EVERYONE bring bread.

We will follow this schedule until further notice.

"Street” prayer
The Mission and Outreach committee will continue our Street Pryaer program.  You are asked to pay for the residents of the street—there may be members or friends that live on the street.  You might know some and others you won’t, but the Lord knows us all and cares for each of us.  Streets or roads are in Springville unless otherwise stated. The following is the street prayer schedule for July/August;

Start each day by remembering others in your prayers.

Celebrate America and remember our church.

B-ball is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm. to 7:00pm. Both are organized and supervised. Anyone and any skill level is welcome to play.

Cans For Camp
We are continuing to collect cans and bottles to raise funds to send kids to camp. In addition to leaving your bottles and cans at the church, you can take them to The Can Man on 101 Waverly St. Just ask them to credit Springville United Methodist Church, and we will recieve a check! You can get a reciept for tax purposes too, just ask. So please donate your cans and bottles and help a deserving child go to camp that may otherwise not be able to afford to go!

Here's what your donated cans did!
Jon Maybray and Luke Newman would like to thank everyone who has contributed pop cans to our church. The money generated from the pop cans helped fund a scholarship for both boys to attend Camp Asbury, a Methodist church camp.

This was Jon’s first time at Camp Asbury and he loved it! A favorite activity for Jon was riding a water tube while being pulled along the lake by a speedboat...good thing his Mom did not know in advance that Jon would be enjoying such an activity! This was Luke’s second visit to the camp and he enjoyed cooking over a campfire and going down the water slide into the pool.

Please keep dropping off your pop cans at church or take them to the Can Man on Waverly St. and ask that the money be sent to the First United Methodist church. All kids from our church family are eligible to receive a scholarship for a Methodist camp. If you know of an elementary aged youth interested in a week of excitement at a well-run Christian facility, be sure to talk to Jon or Luke’s parents (Jeff & Tracy Maybray or Lois Scharf-Newman)..
